The Camino de Santiago from Oviedo marks the first section of the legendary Camino Primitivo. This stretch, running from Oviedo to Lugo, is perfect for pilgrims who want to capture the authentic essence of this historic route.
The Camino Primitivo is the oldest route of the Camino de Santiago, first used by devout pilgrims in Asturias during the 9th century, including King Alfonso II himself. The path begins in the elegant city of Oviedo, home to the imposing Cathedral of San Salvador, a key pilgrimage site for centuries.
Along the way, we walk through the Asturian mountains, following forested trails, mountain passes with spectacular views, and picturesque mountain villages. Without a doubt, the panoramas the Camino Primitivo offers are worth every step and effort.
Finally, we arrive in the city of Lugo, renowned for having one of the best-preserved Roman walls in Europe, stretching over 2 km around its old town. This wall, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the region’s most impressive historical treasures.
Lugo is also a must for food lovers, with a wide variety of bars where you can enjoy delicious pinchos and tapas that will make your arrival even more memorable.
