General description
The Seventh section of the French road takes you from Ponferrada , a city with great history and charm, famous for its impressive Castillo de los Templarios , to Sarria , in Galicia, one of the most popular starting points for pilgrims who wish to obtain the compostela.
After leaving behind, the road goes to Villafranca del Bierzo , a picturesque mountain town surrounded by spectacular natural landscapes. From there begins one of the most demanding stages of this section: the climb to the mountains that take us to or Cebreiro .
O Cebreiro is a small and lovely mountain town that marks the entrance to Galicia . His views, his traditional architecture and his mystical atmosphere make him a very special place within the road.
From here, the route continues through the Galicia Rural , between forest and green hills, until reaching Sarria . For those looking for an enriching variant, there is the possibility of taking an alternative route that passes through the majestic Monastery of Samos , a jewel of Galician heritage that deserves a visit.
Enjoy this unforgettable journey between mountains , History and Nature on the Camino de Santiago from Ponferrada.
